A rich and decadent chocolate cake made with HIVE Wildflower Honey, perfect for any occasion. The honey adds natural sweetness while keeping the cake moist and tender.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup HIVE Wildflower Honey
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional for extra richness)
Instructions:
Prepare the Cake Batter:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or two 8-inch round cake pans for a layered cake.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and HIVE Wildflower Honey until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin), and fold in the chocolate chips, if using.
Bake the Cake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan(s) and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve:
- Once cooled, serve as is, or frost with your favorite frosting (cream cheese frosting, chocolate ganache, or a simple dusting of powdered sugar works wonderfully).
