Indulge in the rich, flaky layers of baklava sweetened with HIVE Wildflower Honey. This homemade version is filled with chopped nuts and drenched in a luscious honey syrup, making it the perfect dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients:

For the Baklava:

  • 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
  • 2 cups mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios, or almonds), finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Honey Syrup:

  • 1 cup HIVE Wildflower Honey
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Prepare the Nut Filling:

  • In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts and cinnamon. Set aside.

Assemble the Baklava:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
  • Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet lightly with melted butter.
  • Spread 2-3 tablespoons of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo.
  • Add 2 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter, then another layer of nuts. Repeat until all the nuts are used, ending with a final layer of 8 buttered phyllo sheets.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamonds or squares.

Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the baklava is golden and crisp.

Prepare the Honey Syrup:

  • While the baklava bakes, combine HIVE Wildflower Honey, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

Finish the Baklava:

  • Once the baklava is out of the oven, immediately pour the hot honey syrup evenly over the top.
  • Let it soak for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best flavor.

Serve:

  • Garnish with extra chopped nuts if desired.
  • Serve at room temperature and enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea.

Tips:

  • Keep the phyllo dough covered with a damp towel while working to prevent it from drying out.
  • Use a food processor to quickly chop the nuts.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
